About

Hello and welcome. My name is Ian Lacey and this is my blog, ‘The Long Path’.

After successfully completing a MA in Public History in 2021, I am currently conducting postgraduate research at Royal Holloway, University of London. My thesis is entitled ‘‘Anywhere in Europe from Your Local Station’: An Oral History of the Late-Twentieth-Century Interrail Experience from a UK Perspective’.

I have conducted more than 50 oral history interviews and am drawing upon these to examine the experiences of travellers from across the UK who took an Interrail trip in the period 1972 to 1997.

Aside from history, my passions include travel and tourism, visitor attractions, accessibility, photography, music, and cricket.

In ‘The Long Path’ I want to share some of these passions. I hope that along the path, you will meet interesting people and discover places that inspire you to find out more.

Feedback about the blog is always welcome so please contact me.
